Analysis (breaking things down) only gets you so far; eventually you have to turn back to synthesis (or the whole) to find meaning. This is a big problem in our post- modern mindset. We tear stuff apart (things, information or relationships) trying to analyze them for meaning and we finding nothing but the pieces of how something was formed. So we are left "picking up the pieces" trying to figure out what it all means and often the conclusion is that since the pieces mean nothing that must mean the "total" or the "whole" has no real meaning either. This is a false conclusion. Show me all the parts of a rose (a petal, a leaf, the stem) and you have given me a botany lesson; give a rose to your wife and you understand the meaning of a rose!
