Cabin Songs

It has been a year of losses; My father's death in March, and the recent death of VoL bassist Jon Guthrie, being two. A certain sadness, that seems woven into the cloth of life, has pervaded the year; My own sense of mortality, that has been forefront of my own thoughts since I was a boy, surfaced on some of the tracks. Such futility, like some dark, wild, animal sitting in the corner of my thoughts, seems to have always been there.
However, listener take note: This offering is not by any means grim. There is "a hallowed light scattered about." This is a rendering using the most insignificant variables (some guitars and voice) to "give a name" to the darker places and doubts that we all walk through. Perhaps, to wrestle with these in song are part of what it means to be truly human; Funny thing: I believe that it's the examination of such "heavy" themes that make our "good times," even more hallowed. No "propaganda" here, this record is an offering with humility; I'm very proud of the work...and I think you will find it a good experience.

So, what do we have here?
Call it a privatized "whisper," of mortality, loss and grief; Rendered (hopefully) with reverence, honesty and transparency;
Call it a "whistling in the dark."
Call it a search for faith.
Welcome to "Cabin Songs."

"Warm Up Act," "Did I Tell You the Bullet's Still There?" and autumn Graces are about as descriptive and transparent as anything I'd ever want to "hold forth" on the subject; I'm sure, in some way, the subject has nuanced every word I've ever written, every song I've sung, and every action I've undertaken.

peace and courage on your journey,
